My Strategy For CSE 2017

I would introduce my self as a software engineer with almost 6 years of working experience in MNCs. I am good at my work and my progress is quite impressive in my point of view. Yet I have decided now to change my career path and join civil services.

The inspiration towards civil services is not sudden, it was since childhood that I wanted to be famous and work for society. The reason I didn't started my preparation till now is lack of faith in my self. But now I see it as the last opportunity in my life to fulfill my dream. I am not married yet and can wait for a year easily, there is not much pressure from my family for marriage and I still have few chances left for CSE as per age restriction.

I started my preparation in DEC 2016. Since there was a lack of confidence, first I thought to study for a month then evaluate my self and decide whether to continue my preparation or not. In this process, I did all the research on the internet about CSE, bought few NCERT and other books and started studying. I choose Math as optional subjects for mains. The main reason of choosing Math is; It interests me and it is a scoring subject, I have studied Math till my engineering. My aim is to get through in one attempt otherwise continue with my IT career. After all these evaluation and considering all the pros and cons I think Math is the only option for me. The other thought is to do the preparation with my Job at least until prelims. If I can get through prelims with a per-decided level of mains preparation then I can leave my job and do full time preparation for mains. I consider it achievable because there is not much work pressure in my current job and i can easily get 5 hours a day and whole day during weekends.

Now as of today when I am writing this post, one month is over and after evaluating this period I fill full of confidence and it seems achievable to me. In the past one month I have studied many things, I studied almost all the NCERTs of 11th and 12th for humanities subjects and a portion of MATH Syllabus (Calculus and Differential Equation). Now when I see the last year papers I find everything very familiar. Though I am able to solve only little part of it but there is a feeling that I can do it. I just need to sharp my knowledge and understandings.

The one most important things that's needs my urgent attention is to improving writing skill and I have decided to practice it daily. This blog is the start of that and it's my first post :) .

As per my strategy these are the few things that I have to complete before prelims.
1) 11th and 12th NCERTs for at least 3 times before prelims.
2) Few other important preferred books for polity, history etc.
3) 100 % of the Math Syllabus before prelims with little practice. 10 to 20 problems each topic, but concept should be clear.
4) Daily writing practice for GS mains.
5) Daily Current Affairs from news papers/Magazine, Yojana, Economic Survey.
6) Practicing previous years question papers and join a test series for prelims.

I believe if I can complete this list as planned and strict to my routine then, I can get through the prelims with a minimum required base for mains exam.

After getting through the prelims there is around 3 months of time for mains. If I take non paid long leave from my job and devote my complete time for mains preparation then it feels achievable to me.

Thanks,
Amrit
